Random Wench
The main feature
of my wench costume is this corset. I have a couple different skirts to wear
with it, and a couple of sheer tops that go underneath. The stories behind
the skirts and tops aren't very interesting- I just picked up some cheap Simplicity
Renaissance pattern. Not much to tell there!
The corset started one summer day when I was really bored around the house
and decided to try making a corset, which is something I'd never done before.
I'd done tops and dresses with boning, but never an actual corset. This design
was based on an Elizabethan/Restoration look but is by no means historically
accurate. It's just something I made to look nice.
The fabric was a bolt end of some expensive upholstery I had been eyeing
for months. I ended up getting a piece big enough to make my corset AND reupholster
the seat of a chair for a couple dollars. It's a champagne-coloured poly blend
with a jacquard weave to mimic crewelwork embroidery. The lower trim is a
thick two-toned upholstery lipped rattail braid paired with a matching flat
braid. The trim up the sides and over the top is a smaller lipped rattail
braid. The corset laces up with regular old ribbon.
